Fishing Cork
fishing rod with crumbled cork handle, and it needs a fly reel seat and new paint.?
I found an old metal Fly Fishing rod with crumbled cork handle, paint is all falling off, and there are no fly reel seats. It also needs new thread for the eyes.
My questions are how do i repair the cork handle (how do i put on new cork?), how do i paint it so it doesnt crack when bent (what type of paint and clear coat do i use?) How do i install a reel seat? also how to i put new thread on and what brand of varnish do i put over the thread?
Sounds like it needs way too much time, effort, and money to repair. Cork isn’t cheap, paint is hard to stick, impossible to find original thread, and reel seats are a b*tch to put on.
Those steel rods really aren’t worth much even when they’re in mint condition. I don’t mean to sound like an asshole, but… I think you’re better off just buying a new flyrod instead of going through all the trouble of restoring the steel one.
