fly fishing history books
when evangelicals started insisting the bible be treated like a history or science book…?

…did they paint themselves into a corner?

…forever having to explain how a donkey could talk, and a snake,.. and how the earth and all the fossils are only 6000 years old …and PIE=3…and bats are birds, and how a guy was inside a fish for 3 days …and how Jesus flew up into the clouds surrounded by angels… and Noah’s ark, and the sun stopping in the sky and dragons and unicorns and etc and etc ????
Greg: as far as religions go, Christianity isnt all that old
fmko: which “God” in particular are you referring to?
( just joking….i already know youre referring to the protestant christian god)

1) when evangelicals started insisting the bible be treated like a history or science book…?
…did they paint themselves into a corner?

Science – yes, it clearly is not a science book History? No – it clearly is a historical work.

2) forever having to explain how a donkey could talk

I can’t imagine why any Christian would *have* to explain that. Watch me not explain it…here I go…

3) and a snake

Ditto.

4) and how the earth and all the fossils are only 6000 years old

anyone who says this was not paying close attention to the bible…

5) and PIE=3

And whoever says this clearly has no comprehension of 3-dimensional objects or of textual descriptions of same. When you have to manufacture “inconsistencies” like this to make your point, we know that you’re desperate.

6) and bats are birds

Ditto.

7) how a guy was inside a fish for 3 days

See the answer for number 2)

8) how Jesus flew up into the clouds surrounded by angels

ditto

9) and Noah’s ark

This actually requires no explanation. A guy built a boat and loaded some animals on it.

10) the sun stopping in the sky

First one that might actually deserve an explanation. It’s pretty simple, if you comprehend physics…

11) and dragons and unicorns

(grin) again, normally not worth the time. The explanation – which I very rarely find myself giving – is that the translators of the King James Version simply didn’t know as much about ancient Hebrew and Aramaic as scholars of today.
