Surf Fishing Melbourne Florida
How is (saltwater) fishing in Florida right now?
I’ll have 4 days on the Atlantic coast, near Melbourne. We went around the same time last year, and had a lot of fun. Surf fishing, catching blues and whiting, I liked the best . We also have access to a boat for fishing in the Indian River, near Sebastian’s Inlet. We caught a bigger variety of fish there, but nothing real big, and 4 out of 5 were little mutton snappers. Blues are so fun to fight, and they were non-stop. I’ll probably go out in the boat one day, and spend the rest of the time on the beach.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sebastian inlet… ahh… if you’ve got a calm enough day to go out of the inlet in that boat there’s a pretty darn deep spot off the north jetty that’s supposed to be real nice… just a little smidge out of casting range from the jetty itself… nice fish outta there from what I hear. Heck, nice fish off the jetty itself… or the piers under the bridge…
Not sure if the redredging of the channel had been done when you were there last, but it’s not as treacherous going from the Indian River out the inlet anymore… current is still a bear, but scraping bottom shouldn’t be an issue.
Also, Wabasso Bridge is nice for mangrove snapper… (didn’t have access to a boat when I was down there all the time, so I’ve got bank spots.) And I’ve seen some nice fish caught on the east bank of the I.R. as you’re going out A1A to get to the inlet… err… from the south. (not sure if you’re gonna be in Indian River County or Brevard, but the Sebastian river and inlet are the dividing line)

Hmm… when? And can Brandon come too? Shoot, between work and alligators and getting the place ready for the inevitable in May I’m not sure I can get away from anything right now… I’d love to though…
Ha! And one of the guides that comes into work told me yesterday that I couldn’t do what he does… maybe not from a boat, darnit, but I know where there’s fish…
