Sick Red Devil fish (Australia)?

I have a very sick Red Devil fish, I woke up this morning and he was upside down in his tank. He also appears to be ‘gasping’
History: He is about 6 1/2 years old. Health was OK up until developing Hole in the Head about a year ago, which cleared up OK with treatment from the local fish shop. Over the the past few weeks he has had a decreased appetite, has become very pale and seems to be a bit wider.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get him better???

I have tried to give him cooked peas in the event it was swim bladder, but he won’t swallow them.
Thanks for your replies. We did a 30% water change yesterday morning. Regular water changes every week of 20% – 30% PH is 7.0. I don’t have a kit to test nitrates etc. His tank is a 5 ft by 1.5 ft by 2 ft.

When I say wider, he looks swollen. Not like a pine cone with his scales.

When you say that the fish appears to be ‘wider’, have you actually viewed the fish from above? Do the scales stick out from the sides, forming a pine-cone effect? There are many different causes of swimbladder problems (i.e bacterial infections, tumors, internal damage) and feeding peas isn’t an all-round solution. If you have a test kit could you provide the test results for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?
