Day Trips by Car from Phoenix, Arizona

While in phoenix, AZ, one can travel to different interesting locations and sites by car. One such is the famous Grand Canyon, which lies 200 miles to the north of Phoenix. The Grand Canyon can also be accessed through rail transport. However, traveling by car gives one the chance to visit Tusayan city where the Grand Canyon Theater is located. Here, one can watch an educational film about the Canyon. People interested in the historical heritage about Arizona can also visit Prescott, which lies 90 miles from Phoenix. Prescott was the first capital of Arizona and its architecture resembles New England. Some of the historical sites include the County Courthouse Plaza, which was built in 1916. To date, the courthouse serves as the centre of business and social activities in downtown Prescott.

People with an interest in aircraft museums can travel to the Pima Air and Space Museum, which is located 110 miles South of Phoenix. When the museum first opened in May 1976, it had 75 aircrafts for display.  The collection has however increased to 250 over the time, and the museum now sits on an 80-acre land. 29 miles Southeast of Phoenix sits the Queen Creek and Coolidge town, which is home to large and unusual pre-historic structures such as the ‘big House’ and the Casa Grande Ruins. The road trip to this town is especially enjoyable to the country lovers who like mountain views and large open areas.

For a rural feel, one should consider traveling to Guadalupe town, which is just 127 miles of Phoenix. The town has a strong ethnic and cultural identity, which combines Yaqui natives and Hispanic cultures. This is despite the town being named after the Virgin of Guadalupe, who is considered the patron of Mexico. Another interesting destination that one can take from phoenix by road is the Gila Blend Town.  Gila Bend is 179 miles from phoenix and one would have to drive through the scenic desert landscape set on a mountainous backdrop. The enjoyable part about this drive is that road leading to Gila Blend from phoenix are smooth, have little curvy areas and have no traffic issues due to the low number of vehicles on the roads.

Nature lovers can travel to the Theodore Roosevelt Lake, which is located 210 miles of phoenix. The history behind this lake indicates that it was constructed in 1911 on Salt River. This makes the lake the oldest man-made reservoir in the Arizona area. While here, visitors engage in boating and fishing games. One can also visit any or both of the two craters located in the Arizona area. It is believed that the Meteor crater was created from a meteoritic impact to earth. The sunset crater on the other hand happened from volcanic activity in 1100 AD.  The beautiful Sedona city is also another destination that is only two hours away from phoenix. This city has phenomenal sunsets, sweeping vista and red-rock landscape. In addition, the city has beautiful resorts and art galleries. Other areas worth visiting include the Old Tucson Studios, the Montezuma Castle and the pavilion shopping center.
