I want to go to the mountains this summer on vacation. Preferably to Canada but I’m open minded. Where…?

Where can I go in the Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary area that would be fun for my wife and 7 year old daughter? She likes to camp. We’ll go fishing and etc. This is a first for us so…
Colorado, Montana or Wyoming are not out of the question either.
Actually, how is Yellowstone for kids?



I would say not Edmonton, as it is furthest away from the mountains of the three cities you have mentioned. Vancouver is basically in the mountains, but it is very highly populated so you will need to drive in from there.

Calgary is about 1.5 hours by car to Banff, and about the same distance to Drumheller, which is a beautiful area with strange geography and a great dinosaur museum.

I would suggest either Calgary or Vancouver, but you might first want to decide exactly what it is you want to see. For details on getting permits for camping and fishing in national parks (as you may very well want to, especially near Calgary), see the Parks Canada website here:
