Hello again, and thank you all for following this series of fishing in Thailand. As I write this newsletter I'm in the UK shows that attending to fishing found with old friends, getting drunk and freezing my nuts while in Thailand, the heatwave continues. I'm sitting here with the man flu, feeling sorry for myself, and counting the days until I can return to paradise. In Krabi temperatures are at their highest level ever recorded. The stream passing the lake is really dry, for the first time in memory – nobody in our village has seen dry creek race, such as southern Thailand, the experiences of the warmest recorded in February. The forest around us has changed since its usual lush green to brown. Fortunately we have seven natural springs that feed the lake, and although they are running are slowly helping to curb the lake dropped to a record low. We are pumping water into the lake from our well and a fountain next door, but with all my staff gardening water our gardens everyday seven acres are fighting a losing battle. Even George the turtle is struggling, can not be bothered to walk from the shade the top of the hill to the lake, so the other day we took a little water to it, and it really took 3? liters of water without stopping, as Sean with Singha beer! Speaking of George has been having races to run with a fishing guide John. It just is not a contest though as George wins every time! Sean, Kevin and Gollock have taken advantage of a slowdown in customers to build a rock barrier on the side of the lake bungalow to stop erosion, and gardeners have to fill with rocks and replant some climbing plants, so that they grow, the stones are hidden. In reality the plants grow faster than the old John walks!
It is strange; arapaima are such curious fish. Every day the guys are working on the stones the arapaima hang motionless behind them watching the proceedings. We have also increased our hummingbirds visiting flowers that are on the rise due to continuous irrigation the gardener. Our stock upper pool, which backs onto the forest, is being visited by all kinds of four-legged creatures, the strangest looking for an armadillo, seeping in as darkness fell. All this activity, along with material fish is missed by a few individuals who sit on the swim deck sunscreen getting a tan, while following through with the task of waiting for a big fish to pose with. Do not know the depth of the lake in front of them, or any other get there. The last straw for me was when that fishery experts, seeing me walk around the lake with the old dog, I decided to try to wind up. When told he had just had bad news and wanted to be left alone, chose to tell me that the fish did not feed because the lake was very hot due to be only 1? meters deep. The shallow end of our lake is three meters – we know because we dug. If the donut had bothered to check the depth, would soon have discovered this. Our new regular ex-pat Warren Hua Hin, six hours north of us, came two days early month, taking 28 fish in two days of four species of fish with 22 in its second day.
