bass fishing short stories
Is this a good short story?

I would call it “flash fiction”

“Hold on!!” I screamed to my 8 year old son who was beginning to reel in the biggest Bass I have ever seen-its his first time fishing too. “Almost there son, you can do it!” My boy looked nervous as he manavuered the Fishing Pole to reel in. “I got it Dad, I got it! I caught my first fish!” he said as his face lit up. When he was finished reeling up the fish though, there was no fish or bait. He looked dispointed as he set the fishing pole down.”Dont worry son, there are other fish in the sea.”
Be honest, I can take it.

P.S. this is not a short story I only put short story because I dont know what to call this.

Yes, it’s a story, but not one that has much impact.

Short stories require a decisive twist or turn – generally unexpected – at the end. With flash fiction, it’s all the more important to use that narrative device.

For example, if the son had snagged onto a piece of junk with the words ‘try again’ printed on it – perhaps an old can with an advertising promo on it – the father and he could have had a good laugh about it. And, the reader also…

So a good rule for short shorts is to surprise the reader.
